Fall is for making things

It feels like it's finally getting really cold in Germany! It's time to get out that suitcase where I store my hats and scarves and mittens during summer! I loved the warm and sunny Autumn weather but I'm really looking forward to wearing boots and knitted socks and hats and cute tights and seeing my own breath in the cold morning hours.
The only thing that's hard to get used to is that the sun sets so early this time of the year! It's completely dark at 5pm! Whaaat!? Perfect time to get a cozy blanket, snuggle up on the sofa with a hot cup of my favorite tea and start a few (many!) new projects! I'm working at so many different things right now I hope to get everything done until spring! A few projects I'm on are: Doing some embroidery for the shop and for Christmas, knitting mittens (Keep your fingers crossed I'll knit the second one too!), crocheting cozy socks, watching over my chili seedlings. I'm also into cooking, because some of the herbs on my kitchen window sill needed the whole summer to grow and I'm happy that I can finally use them!

First Days of Fall Wishlist

Looks like we have to face it guys: Autumn is coming! I can't help but miss the long long warm summer nights, the sun, the warmth, the ice cream dates and the airy dresses. I'm kinda sad it's already over. This year it's especially hard for me to let go of summer, because we were enjoying the most beautiful summer time in Italy just two weeks ago! DIY Acorn Cap Ring

Sorry for being so quiet last week. I wasn't feeling well and spent much time sleeping and lying around and watching TV. Now I'm back and I brought this simple DIY tutorial with me. You might remember that I collected acorn caps back in late November (read here) and I thought you might be curious what happened to them (You ARE curious, right!? Riiight?). And the best about it: It's a two-steps-tutorial!

Supplies: An acorn cap. Nail polish. Thin brass or aluminum wire. A ring base with holes pad. Pliers.

Preparation: Clean the acorn cap and remove the stem if it has one. If there's no small hole in the middle, drill one in. Paint the inner side of the cap with nail polish. I took silvery polish and painted two coats. Let dry.
[1] I would recommend to choose the wire in the same color as the ring base, I think it will look nicer that way. But I didn't have a golden ring base or silver wire, so my colors are mixed. Secure the wire to the middle of the ring plate. You can do this with one end or the middle area of the wire.
[2] Place the acorn cap on top of the ring plate. Move the wire around and pull it through the hole from the top and down through a hole in the plate. Pull it up again through another hole and repeat the process. Do this as often as you like. Afterwards, wrap the remaining wire around the base of the acorn cap (between the ring plate and the acorn). It's just perfect if it looks messy! And don't forget to hide the ends of the wire.

DIY Glitter Acorn Ornaments

Are you feeling festive already? Christmas is coming soon and I'm all into finding the perfect gifts for everyone. It's been fun so far but I hope to be done before the Christmas madness hits me.
I started decorating a tiny little bit yesterday, combining a little autumn with a little Christmas to make an easy transition between the seasons and came up with glittery acorn ornaments! They are super fast and easy to make! Here's how:
[1] You'll need some acorns (with cap), some glue, a small paint brush, scissors, thread or a ribbon for the hanging, glitter!
[2] Before you start, clean the acorns. Tie the ribbon to the small stem on the acorn cap. I did a simple knot around it and secured it with a little blob of glue. Make sure your glue is transparent after hardening. After the hanging is nice and secure put some glue on the acorn (but leave out the cap) and spread it thoroughly. Use a paint brush if needed.
[3] Sprinkle the acorn with lots and lots of glitter. This is the fun part! Sprinkle until everything is nicely covered in glitter. Give the acorn a little shove or two to remove excess glitter.
[4] Looking glittery over here! Let the glue dry and your glitter acorn ornaments are ready to be used!

These ornaments are perfect for autumn and Christmas as well. And ... glitter. GLITTER! I know the first glitter-themed post was more than overdue. I love the festive look of these ornaments and I will definitely make some more for Christmas decorations. If I can find some more acorns with caps, that is.
