I don't know about you, but my skin becomes super sensitive in the winter months and needs some extra attention from me. This year, I really wanted to ditch the expensive creams, the fancy ingredients, the chemical additives and the plastic packaging and make my own skin care products with all natural ingredients that I know are good for my skin and that I already have at home. The first thing I tried was this brown sugar and honey body scrub. I already knew that honey is just awesome on the skin, because I use it on those very persistent cracks in the corners of my mouth and it seems to be the only thing that really helps quickly. Let's take a look at the benefits the ingredients have on your skin:
Honey is extremely moisturizing and soothing, it helps to create a natural glow on your skin. It's rich in antioxidants, prevents skin aging, nourishes and rejuvenates the skin. It has antibacterial and purifying properties, so great for clarifying your skin and treat or prevent blemished skin.
Olive oil is very rich in minerals, vitamins E and A and natural fatty acids. It hydrates and regenerates the skin, makes it soft and elastic. Like honey, it's rich in antioxidants which possess anti-aging properties.
Brown sugar contains glycolic acid, which fights bacteria. The small crystals gently moisturize and clean the skin and support skin regeneration.
Brown sugar, honey and olive oil body scrub
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp brown sugar
Mix the ingredients together and pour the mixture into a small glass container. Multiply the ingredients for a larger batch.
How to use it
Wash your face as usual. Remove a small portion and distribute the product between your fingers or in the palm of your hand. In an upward circular motion, spread the product onto your face or any body part that needs some love and gently massage it in. Use lukewarm water to wash it off and pat dry afterwards.
I store my scrub in a small glass jar in our bathroom and have used the same batch for over a month now. This stuff is completely no-fuss.
